Mike Shahan is a mechanical engineer currently located in Morgantown, WV with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). He works as a Team Lead within the National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory (NPPTL) and is responsible for certifying NIOSH approved respirators.
Prior to his current role, Mike has had 7 years of experience as a mechanical engineer in private practice. He also has 9 years of experience with NIOSH, where he held various engineering positions. In 2015, he joined NIOSH as a mechanical engineer in the Pittsburgh Mining Research Division. During this time, he worked on several projects within the Dust, Ventilation and Toxic Substances branch, focusing on researching dust control strategies in underground coal mines.
Mike holds both a bachelor's and master’s degree in mechanical engineering from West Virginia University. He is also a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of West Virginia and Maryland
